This Brunswick renovation reimagines a tightly held single fronted cottage into a light filled, highly functional home. After 5 years of living in the home, Bec and Mark knew things needed to change, with a growing family, like many others love the area, have the schools and lifestyle, but need a home that fits their needs. Designed by WOWOWA Architecture, the project transforms a once constrained layout into a space defined by openness, warmth and considered detail.

Natural light is drawn deep into the home through sculpted roof forms, curved glazing and carefully positioned windows, while materiality, from polished concrete floors to custom joinery, creates a layered and refined interior. The result is a home that feels vibrant, liveable and deserving of its recognition as Best Renovation at the 2020 Master Builders Victoria Awards.

A Refined Architectural Renovation

The design responds to the site conditions, drawing in light through a separated pitched roof with an apex window, positioned alongside a curved master bedroom wall that is again flooded with natural light. Internal feature brick walls are carefully detailed to draw the eye, with intricate patterns revealed as sunlight shifts throughout the day. Polished concrete floors run throughout, with integrated heating for comfort.

The custom joinery, crafted by our in house team, is a standout, featuring V grooved panels with dual tones incorporated into a single door. Blackbutt benchtops introduce warmth against the concrete floors and stone surfaces, while powder coated overhead cabinetry adds a strong visual focus.
